New ZealandAll-rounder
Michael Bracewell is a left-handed batsman who can also keep wicket, and he comes from Masterton in New Zealand. Cricket runs deep in his family. His father, Mark, made his name in the domestic game, while his uncles Brendon and John both represented New Zealand at international level, as did his cousin Doug.
At domestic level Bracewell plays for Wellington, a side with several capable wicket-keepers on its books. Because Tom Blundell usually takes the gloves, Bracewell and his teammate Conway tend to be picked purely for their batting. Bracewell is known for an aggressive, attacking approach at the crease, and he has said he bases his style on that of Adam Gilchrist.
His sporting interests are not limited to cricket. Bracewell is also familiar with rugby, as many young New Zealand athletes are, and he plays basketball as well.
In 2010 Bracewell and his cousin Doug were both members of New Zealand's Under-19 squad. At the time the source profile was written, however, Michael had not yet been selected for the senior national team.
