PAK vs SL, 2nd T20I · Scorecard

Final overs

- That is a wrap from this one-sided encounter. Can Sri Lanka come up with a strong response? Or will Pakistan go for a cleansweep? We will back on Tuesday to bring you all the action from the third and final T20I of the series. Do remember to join us for that one. Cheers!!
- Sahibzada Farhan | Pakistan skipper: [On Pakistan’s overall performance] The way the match started, I was thinking that we would touch 200 today. But the powerplay did not go too well. Still, I believed that 180 was within reach, but I said that 195 would be the best score, and that would break the record too. We were telling the boys that we could comfortably score 200. [On Maaz Sadaqat’s aggressive batting] I told Maaz Sadaqat that if I had someone like him coming in after me, I would score a hundred in every match. The way he is playing and winning matches for Pakistan almost single-handedly deserves a lot of credit. [On Pakistan’s improved scoring rate and six-hitting] If you look at our T20 cricket in 2026, you will see a clear difference. We have also hit the most sixes. Earlier, we might hit a six after 20–25 balls, but now we are hitting one after around 15 balls. Everyone’s strike rate is above 150. Given the way T20 cricket is played today, if you play like this, you can score 200 in every match. [On the possibility of winning the series 3-0] We still have the same mindset, we will come out strongly for the third match, and hopefully things will go the same way. [Translated from Urdu]
- Kusal Mendis | Sri Lanka skipper: [On where the team fell short] I think the batters have to take responsibility, including me. The pitch looks like a batting pitch, so we have to score at least 200 runs. [On the lack of wickets despite a good powerplay] In the powerplay, the fast bowlers bowled really well. After that, we dropped a couple of catches and made mistakes in our ground fielding. I think the bowlers bowled really well, and I’m happy with some aspects of our performance. However, we were a little poor in the middle overs and in the fielding department. We have to improve quickly. In T20 cricket, we need to improve our fielding and batting as well. [On the team’s fielding standards in the series] Of course, in the last couple of tournaments, we have done really well in the fielding department. Unfortunately, in the last two games, some of our fielders haven’t been in the right areas, and that’s why we’ve struggled a little. But I have a lot of confidence in my team. Hopefully, when we come into the next game, we will do really well.
- Maaz Sadaqat | Player of the Match: [On his form today compared to the last game] Thanks to Almighty first. The way my bat was flowing, I was trying to make the most of it, it was a good innings. [On telling Hasan Nawaz in advance that he would hit a six] Absolutely. I believed in myself and knew I could hit it. So I told him beforehand that I would hit a six off that ball and asked him to watch, that’s exactly what happened. [On his positive intent when he walks out to bat] I always have that positive intent from the start. The other thing is that I watch the ball and try to hit it according to where it is pitched. That’s what brings me success. [On his partnership with the captain] He was guiding me ball by ball, and we were communicating with each other about what was happening in each over, whether there were opportunities to take it easy or hit boundaries. Accordingly, we decided when not to go for big shots. We were both trying to build a long innings together. [Translated from Urdu]
- 21:40 local, 16:40 GMT, 22:10 IST: Once again, it was the same trio that made the difference between the two sides. With the bat, Maaz Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan set the tone, while Mohammad Imran Randhawa led the charge with the ball. After smashing 84 in the final six overs, Pakistan carried all the momentum into the second innings and made full use of it, by picking up four wickets in eight overs. Sri Lanka needed a strong powerplay to have any chance of chasing down this mammoth total, but they struggled to get going, managing just 35 runs and playing far too many dot balls. The hosts were disciplined with their lengths and used their variations to great effect, sealing a comprehensive win to clinch the series with a game to go. Stick around for the post-match reactions!
