Sri LankaAll-rounder
Dunith Wellalage is a Sri Lankan cricketer who bowls left-arm spin and can also contribute with the bat in the lower order, a combination that makes him a spin all-rounder in the one-day format.
His introduction to one-day internationals came in 2022, in a series against Australia. Across that series he took 9 wickets, more than any other bowler on either side, and Sri Lanka took the contest 3-2. It was a notable start for a newcomer at that level.
At the 2023 Asia Cup he produced his first five-wicket haul in ODIs, against India. In the same game he scored an unbeaten 42. Sri Lanka did not win that match, but Wellalage was still named player of the match for his efforts with both ball and bat.
Wellalage was part of Sri Lanka's plans for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where pitches were expected to offer help to spin bowlers. His control as a slow left-armer and his ability to add runs down the order made him a useful option for the side.
