Final overs

- A winning start for Pakistan under Sahibzada Farhan as they go 1-0 up. The 2nd game is on the 11th of October at the same venue. We will be there nice and early for that one. For now that's it from here. Do join us then. Sleep tight and take care.
- Kusal Mendis | Sri Lanka captain: [On whether 182 was a sufficient total after adapting to the conditions] I think 180 is not enough. I think 20 runs, 30 runs - we were a little bit short. I think we have to score 200-plus on a pitch like this. [On whether losing wickets in the powerplay and failing to maintain momentum contributed to the shortfall] Yeah, of course, myself and Kamil got out earlier. I think we have to play a little bit positive cricket, and in the powerplay we have to score runs. Kamil and I got out earlier. I think that’s the issue with us struggling in the middle overs. [On Lahiru Udara's outstanding innings of 91 and the runs he provided to defend] Yeah, of course, he batted really well. He handled the whole innings in the powerplay and the middle overs, the middle period. He batted really well. I enjoyed the innings, and I hope next match also he will bat really well in this tournament. [On the bowling performance and the need for greater consistency from the new-look side] Yeah, I think we bowled the powerplay little bit badly. That’s why the guys batted really well after the powerplay also. We have to bowl the first six overs a little bit tighter, and in the middle overs we have to take wickets. Then we missed the powerplay, and the guys batted really well, obviously.
- Sahibzada Farhan | Player of the Match and Pakistan captain (translated from Urdu): [On his confidence as captain and the team’s performance] Yes, absolutely. As I said, as a captain, I am very confident in my boys. The way they delivered, the way Fakhar got us off to a start, and then later on, Maaz supported me, I think we will continue to play T20 cricket in the same way. [On whether Sri Lanka's total was a par score or whether the bowling side restricted the opposition well] I think we did a reasonably good job in the middle, and especially our powerplay went really well. But we gave away a few too many runs in the middle. You know how T20 cricket is; sometimes things go one way, sometimes the other. But still, I think 180 was a good score on this wicket. [On the importance of batting combinations and partnerships, and his and Maaz's performances] I think, given the kind of form Maaz is in, he is one of the best players at the moment. I told him to make the most of his form because it does not last forever. But, mashallah, I am very happy for him in his first T20 as captain. [On Imran Randhawa’s impressive debut and his two important wickets] I think the way he bowled was amazing, especially because we knew he was very good with the new ball. He has a lot of domestic cricket experience, so we were fully confident in him.
- 21:45 Local Time, 16:45 GMT, 22:15 IST: Easy win for Pakistan. They may have lost 6 wickets but the result was never in doubt. Especially as their skipper Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat put on 92 for the 2nd wicket. Before that the openers added 54 as 70 came in the powerplay. Sri Lanka had no answers as Farhan blitzed the ball at times. Sadaqat the man in form started with a no-look six which was audacious and he complemented Farhan nicely. Sri Lanka fought back with wickets but it just delayed the inevitable. This is a chasing ground and there was dew which made the Sri Lankan fielders to use the towel regularly. Looking back now, they were at least 25 short. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff....

- 17.46Nuwan Thushara to Sahibzada Farhan, SIX, what a shot. The shot of the game so far. It's a slower-ball and short outside off, Sahibzada Farhan goes on the back foot and flat-bats it. Landed on the cushions and Sahibzada has a smile on his face. He certainly enjoyed that
