Roston Chase is a West Indian cricketer from Barbados who bowls off-spin and bats in the lower order. He has built a reputation as a player capable of batting long to secure a draw, a skill that has become less common in Caribbean cricket as much of the region's talent is drawn towards T20 leagues around the world. He is also regarded as a late bloomer.

His route into the national team came through domestic cricket. In the 2015-16 Professional Cricket League, Chase scored 710 runs and claimed 23 wickets, including five-wicket hauls in both innings against Guyana. At a time when the West Indies were searching for an all-rounder for their Test side, numbers like these made him difficult to overlook.

Chase earned his first Test selection for the 2016 series against India and made an immediate impression. In just his second Test, in Jamaica, he took 5/121 and then, on the last day, made 137 in a determined innings that helped the West Indies escape with a draw. That double achievement placed him in select company: he became only the fourth West Indian to record a five-wicket haul and a century in the same Test, joining Denis Atkinson, Collie Smith and Sir Garfield Sobers.

He showed that the performance was no one-off. The following year, in a home series against Pakistan, Chase struck two hundreds and came close to rescuing the series for his side. The West Indies ultimately lost the final Test, and with it the series, in the second-to-last over of the match. In a side in need of quality players, his efforts suggested he has the ability to develop a strong Test career.
