Brandon King came through the ranks at the Kingston Cricket Club and built a reputation for heavy scoring in domestic cricket while still young. His natural role has been in the middle order, where his attacking strokeplay has served the sides he has turned out for.
His progress into junior representative cricket was smooth. King played Under-19 cricket for Jamaica and was then picked by the West Indies for the 2014 U-19 World Cup. The tournament was a modest one for him, as he finished with 59 runs. Even so, the selectors kept backing him, and he was handed a first-class debut against Trinidad and Tobago.
The early part of his senior career was uneven. A handful of encouraging displays gave way to a dip in form, and for a period he moved in and out of the team. Rather than drift, King set about fixing weaknesses in his technique, and the effort paid off with steadier, more reliable returns for Jamaica.
That consistency opened doors in franchise cricket. King was signed up for the Caribbean Premier League in 2017, and after showing promise there he was also included in the pool of players for the first edition of the Global T20. As of September 2018, he was regarded as an important member of the St. Kitts batting unit during the 2018 CPL, at a time when the franchise was still chasing an elusive win.
