Sheldon Cottrell

The first edition of the Caribbean Premier League raised his profile further, with Cottrell standing out as one of the more promising young players on show. Those performances won him selection for a West Indies A trip to India in November 2013, though injury forced him to withdraw. A month later he was back in India with the senior West Indies side, taking three wickets in a tour fixture. That earned him a Test debut against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, but he could not capitalise and lost his place for the second Test.

His introduction to Twenty20 internationals went better. Facing England in Barbados in March 2014, he returned figures of 2 for 37 and remained part of the West Indies T20 group afterwards. An injury to Kemar Roach opened the door to a second Test, this time against South Africa, but he managed only 1 for 124 and was left out of the following match. In the T20Is that came next he showed flashes of quality without real consistency.

Selectors stayed interested because of his pace and unusual action, and he was named in the West Indies squad for the World Cup held in Australia. He then spent around two years away from one-day international cricket before being brought back for the West Indies tour of New Zealand in 2017-18.
