Jermaine Blackwood

His name first came to wider attention in 2010, when he was picked for the West Indies squad that travelled to New Zealand for the Under-19 World Cup. His real breakthrough came in the 2013-14 first-class season. He finished as the leading run-getter in the Regional four-day competition, collecting 611 runs. A century against a visiting Bangladesh A side followed, and the selectors rewarded him with a call-up to the Test squad for the 2014 series against New Zealand.

His chance arrived after the opening Test in Jamaica, which West Indies lost by 186 runs and in which Marlon Samuels was dismissed for a pair. Blackwood came in as Samuels' replacement and made 63 in his first Test innings. That knock helped the West Indies reach 460 after New Zealand had been bowled out for 221 in their first innings. The home side then completed a 10-wicket victory to level the series at 1-1 with one match left. Even so, Blackwood did not play in that last Test, as the team preferred to include an additional bowler.

In April 2015, playing his sixth Test, he reached three figures for the first time at that level, against England. He then played a leading role in the last match of that series, which West Indies won to draw the contest. He scored 85 in the first innings and an unbeaten 47 in the second, and was named Man of the Match.
