Chadwick Walton

His route into the Test side opened in 2009, when a dispute between several senior players and the board led those players to strike. Walton was brought in as a replacement for the series against Bangladesh, having caught the eye with a productive 2008/2009 domestic campaign. That season he scored 546 runs, with three half-centuries among them, and was involved in 38 dismissals, a tally bettered by only one other player in the competition.

His first Test, played against Bangladesh in Grenada, went well behind the stumps: he claimed five dismissals in a single innings, equalling a record held by Ridley Jacobs. With the bat, however, he struggled. Across two Tests and four innings he managed only 10 runs, and he failed to score in either of his two one-day internationals, even though his keeping stayed sharp. Once the board and the senior players resolved their differences and the established batsmen returned, a way back into the team became harder to find.

Another chance came on the West Indies tour of New Zealand in 2013/14, when an injury to Chris Gayle left the squad short and the WICB recalled him. He made his Twenty20 international debut in the first T20I, scoring 9, and was dismissed without scoring in his second, which remained his latest appearance in the format as of April 2014. He was later left out of the selection for the T20 Cup in Bangladesh.
