IndiaBowler
Arshdeep Singh is a left-arm fast bowler from Punjab who first made his name with India's Under-19 side, which won the World Cup in 2018. Although he appeared in only 2 matches at that event, his speed and accuracy with the new ball drew attention. Months later, playing for Punjab's U-23 team in the CK Nayudu Trophy, he collected 8 wickets against Rajasthan, a haul that featured a hat-trick. That performance earned him a senior state call-up for the Vijay Hazare 2018/19, and he took 2 wickets against Himachal Pradesh on debut.
His showing at Punjab Kings trials highlighted his ability to bowl at the end of an innings, and the franchise signed him before the 2019 IPL. He made his first appearance at his home venue of Mohali against Rajasthan Royals, removing both Jos Buttler and Ajinkya Rahane. He played just three matches that year but was kept on, and in 2020 he claimed nine wickets from eight games. The 2021 campaign was his finest, as he finished as the side's top wicket-taker while settling into the death-overs role. Punjab then retained him as one of only two players ahead of the mega auction. Wickets were harder to come by in 2022, yet he conceded runs at an economy of 7.70 despite bowling many tough overs on surfaces that favoured batters.
The national selectors took notice and added him to India's white-ball squads. Once handed a chance, he took seven wickets in five matches on an away tour of West Indies and was named Man of the Series. At the 2022 Asia Cup he was among India's better performers in a disappointing tournament, filling the death-bowling gap left by Jasprit Bumrah's absence. Home T20I series against South Africa and Australia followed, securing his spot for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
On his first senior trip to Australia, he opened that World Cup with 3/32 against Pakistan, dismissing Babar and Rizwan, and went on to finish as India's leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps in six matches. He later received his ODI debut on India's tour of New Zealand, though he remained regarded chiefly as a T20 bowler. At the 2024 T20 World Cup he played a key part in India's title triumph, ending as joint-leading wicket-taker with 17. Punjab Kings brought him back for 2025 for INR 18 Cr by using their RTM card.
