Saurabh Netravalkar

His height is central to his bowling. It lets him extract awkward, steep bounce from the pitch, and he can also make the ball deviate. Even with those attributes, the sheer depth of cricketing talent in India meant that chances to progress at home were likely to be scarce for him.

Away from the field, Netravalkar is known as a studious character, and at one stage he worked for the technology company Oracle. As a number of gifted Indian players have done, he decided to seek a path in cricket outside his home country.

That search paid off when the United States selected him for their squad at the Super50 Tournament held in the West Indies. Steady performances over time led to him being appointed captain of the USA side, and under his leadership the team secured One Day International status in April 2019.
