Jamie Overton is a tall fast bowler from Devon, standing 6 feet 5 inches, who was long regarded as an exceptional prospect in English cricket. He came through the Devon age-group sides before Somerset nurtured his development, and from the time of his first-class debut he attracted the attention of the national selectors. He is a twin, and his brother also plays the game; Jamie was the quicker of the pair, though also the one more troubled by physical setbacks.

His first taste of international cricket came at youth level. He was named in the England squad for the 2012 Under-19 World Cup, where he featured in 3 matches and claimed 3 wickets.
The path to a senior cap proved long. Late in 2013 he was added to the England squad to face Australia, yet he did not play. In 2015 both twins were summoned for a one-day series involving New Zealand, and again neither took the field. Repeated injuries held him back for years, and his brother reached international cricket before him. Jamie's breakthrough finally arrived in 2022, when he made his Test debut against New Zealand.
Away from England duty, Overton began his county career at Somerset and later had stints with Northamptonshire and Surrey. He was a member of the Surrey side that lifted the County Championship title in 2022. In franchise cricket he has turned out for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred, and in 2023 the Adelaide Strikers added him to their squad.
