Scott Boland

A longer run in the side followed the next season, bringing him 19 wickets from 9 matches at an average of 37.73. In 2013/14 he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the Ryobi Cup with 9 wickets, and he added 25 more Shield wickets in 2014-15. A career-best 7/31 against Western Australia caught the selectors' attention and earned him a call-up for a home Test against the West Indies at Bellerive Oval. That same summer he was included in the ODI and T20 international squads against India, where his returns were modest. His domestic form brought him the Bill Lawry medal in 2016, and a handful of limited-overs internationals followed in later years.

In the Big Bash League he has turned out for Melbourne Stars. BBL 06 was his standout campaign, with 14 wickets at a strike rate of one every 15 balls, making him the club's top wicket-taker, and he remained with the Stars in subsequent seasons.

His Test debut finally arrived in December 2021, after he was drafted into Australia's Ashes squad as cover. He made an immediate mark, taking 6/7 in England's second innings. He kept his place for the following home summer, collecting plenty of wickets as Australia beat the West Indies 2-0, and also featured in the home series win over South Africa, which included a rain-affected draw in Sydney.

Boland then played in the 2023 World Test Championship final, removing Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja as Australia won the match, and he was also involved in the 2023 Ashes. With Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins generally available, however, his Test opportunities have often depended on one of them being absent, and he has been used sparingly since.
