South AfricaWicketkeeper batter
Ryan Rickelton is a South African wicketkeeper who bats left-handed and has made his name at the top of the order. His foundations were laid in domestic cricket with the Highveld Lions, where his first-class numbers include an average in the mid-40s and several hundreds. He also turned out for MI Cape Town in the SA20, and those domestic and franchise displays helped push him toward national selection.
For a stretch of his early career, Rickelton found himself waiting in the wings behind Quinton de Kock, who held the gloves for South Africa. His opening came with an ODI debut against West Indies in 2023, and from there he began to establish himself in more than one format of the international game.
The longer format brought one of his standout moments. In the 2024–25 home series against Pakistan, he compiled a double hundred. He followed that with a white-ball century against Afghanistan at the 2025 Champions Trophy, an innings that further cemented his spot in the national team.
In the Indian Premier League, Rickelton represented Mumbai Indians during the 2025 season. Across 14 appearances he collected 388 runs, operating mainly near the top of the batting order. He combined a steadying presence with the capacity to lift his scoring rate when the situation demanded, and he is viewed as a batter who could take on greater responsibility within the franchise's line-up in the seasons ahead.
