David Bedingham is a South African batter who operates in the middle order and plays with an elegant touch. He is also capable of taking the gloves as a wicket-keeper when required, which adds a useful second string to his game.
In South Africa's domestic competitions, Bedingham was a consistent run-scorer. Despite that weight of runs, selection for the national side did not come his way. He became one of a number of South African cricketers who were close to being lost to their country through the Kolpak rule, when an offer from the English county Durham proved too attractive to turn down.
His time at Durham was productive, and he delivered strong performances across the county seasons. His form also brought a place with the Birmingham Phoenix in 2021. After Brexit, the Kolpak rule was abolished, and Bedingham went back to South Africa. The long-awaited opportunity at the highest level then followed: he made his debut for South Africa against India on Boxing Day in 2023.
