His breakthrough came during BBL 05, while he was still an amateur. Sydney Thunder called him up partway through that campaign as an injury replacement for Pat Cummins, and he was pitched straight into demanding situations, appearing in a couple of matches. McAndrew had come through the Thunder academy, and the franchise rewarded him with a full contract the following season. At club level he plays for Bankstown District Cricket Club.
His Plunket Shield debut came with Auckland, for whom he played three matches. Across those games he made a score of 65 and also chipped in with a couple of wickets.
Back in Australia, New South Wales first picked him for the 2019-20 Marsh Cup. He then switched to South Australia for the 2021/22 season, making his debut for them against Western Australia. His career has also included stints in English county cricket with both Warwickshire and Sussex.
