Lloyd Pope is an Australian leg-spinner whose name became widely known after a remarkable spell at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. Playing for Australia against England in the quarter-final of that tournament, he returned bowling figures of 8/35, an extraordinary haul in any international fixture. He is also recognisable on the field for his red hair.
That display at youth level was the moment that brought him to broad attention, and his domestic career moved quickly afterwards. In the 2018/19 season he played his first first-class match, representing South Australia. His debut in List-A cricket came the following season, in 2019/20.
Pope has also played in the Big Bash League. He was a member of the Sydney Sixers squad during the 2018/19 BBL season, a campaign in which the Sixers won the title. Later, for the 2023/24 season, he switched clubs and joined the Adelaide Strikers.
From a standout youth performance to appearances in first-class, List-A and franchise Twenty20 cricket, his path so far reflects the attention his wrist-spin earned as a teenager.
