Wes Agar

Growing up in Victoria, Agar lacked both the physique and the speed usually expected of a quick. He progressed through the junior age groups without ever being seriously considered. He then took a risk by relocating to Adelaide, where he held down part-time work to support himself while committing to an intense fitness regime. He emerged stronger and noticeably quicker.

In Adelaide he played grade cricket with Adelaide University, where his ability caught the eye. That led to selection for an Australian under-age team at a tournament in Dubai, and in 2016 he was called up by South Australia for the Sheffield Shield. He also attended a National Performance Squad training camp in Brisbane. In the 2016-17 BBL season he made his debut for the Adelaide Strikers. After one season with South Australia he returned to Victoria, then went back to South Australia for the 2019/20 season. That summer he finished as the side's leading wicket-taker in the Sheffield Shield, claiming 33 wickets.

His domestic form earned him a place in Australia's ODI side. On debut he showed he could contribute with the bat, making 41 from 36 balls. His bowling, however, failed to make a strong impression at that level, and he was not able to hold on to his place in the national team.
