Mackenzie Harvey is a left-handed batter whose game is built on powerful, attacking strokeplay. His early break at the professional level came when the Melbourne Renegades signed him for the 2017-18 Big Bash season, bringing him in to fill the spot of Aaron Finch as a replacement player.

He went on to earn his first List-A appearance with Victoria, debuting in the 2018/19 JLT One-Day Cup. Harvey was also given a leadership role at the junior international level, serving as captain of the Australian side at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Cricket runs in the family. Harvey's uncle is Ian Harvey, who played for Australia. The younger Harvey made his own mark when he was selected for a Cricket Australia team to face England. Given that opportunity, he seized it with a rapid 59 that took him only 48 deliveries.
