AustraliaBowler
Matthew Kuhnemann is a left-arm spin bowler from the Gold Coast who also offers some value as a batter. Before reaching senior level he played for the Australia Under-19 side, and during the 2015-16 Premier Cricket season in Queensland he collected 35 wickets. That form helped earn him a rookie deal with Queensland for 2016-17, one of six handed out that year, the others going to Xavier Bartlett, Max Bryant, Brendan Doggett, Jack Prestwidge and Bryce Street.
His first List-A appearance came in October 2017, when he turned out for a Cricket Australia XI against New South Wales in Sydney. He removed Kurtis Patterson and held a catch to account for Peter Nevill. With the bat he was the final wicket to fall, and New South Wales won the match by 93 runs.
Kuhnemann's first outing for the Brisbane Heat came in the 2018/19 season, and he went on to enjoy success in the shortest format of the game. He became known for his control and for delivering tight, economical spells. His first One-Day International for Australia followed in 2022, during a series against Sri Lanka.
In 2023 he was added to the Test squad for the tour of India. With Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson unavailable, he was handed his Test debut, and in only his second Test he returned figures of 5/16, the best of his career.
