England ChampionsWicketkeeper batter
Phil Mustard is a left-handed batsman who also kept wicket, and his chief asset with the bat was raw power: when he connected, the ball tended to travel a great distance.
That hitting ability earned him an England call-up in 2007 for the ODI series played away in Sri Lanka. The selectors kept faith with him for the one-day and T20 portion of the New Zealand tour as well. His best moment came in the tied ODI at Napier, where he struck 83 from 74 balls. Such innings showed what he could do, but he could not produce them regularly, and his time at international level ended after only 12 appearances.
Domestic cricket suited him better. On the county scene he scored quickly and unsettled bowling attacks, and Durham handed him the captaincy in May 2010.
His reputation as a big hitter also opened doors in franchise Twenty20 cricket. During the 2011-12 season he turned out for Barisal Burners in the BPL and for Mountaineers in Zimbabwe.
