Nidheesh is a right-arm fast bowler from Kerala with a strong build, and his career has largely been one of persistence. His first brush with the Indian Premier League came through Kochi Tuskers Kerala, who invited him to a trial camp. The coaching staff were impressed by his raw speed and his skill, yet no contract followed, and the franchise itself never played in the IPL again after 2011.

Without that break, he returned to domestic cricket and kept working on Kerala pitches that offer little help to seamers. Since his first-class debut in 2014, he has been a steady presence in the Kerala Ranji Trophy side through good times and bad.
His turning point was the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, where his bowling caught the attention of Mumbai Indians. The franchise invited him to a trial, and although an injury forced him to leave partway through, he had already shown enough. The same injury also kept him out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament.
Mumbai Indians went on to sign the Kerala quick for 20 lakhs INR ahead of IPL XI, finally giving him a place in the league that had once passed him over.
