TasmaniaAll-rounder
Nikhil Chaudhary is a batting all-rounder who also sends down off-spin. Before his path led him to Australia, he played for Punjab during the 2016-17 season, and his ambition at the time was to earn a place in the IPL.
The COVID-19 pandemic changed his plans. He was in Brisbane on a tourist visa when the crisis left him unable to get home. Instead of waiting to return, he chose to stay in Australia. He kept playing cricket at club level and took on a series of casual jobs to support himself, among them shifts at a Mexican restaurant and work with Australia Post.
His club form drew attention. A coach recommended him to the Hobart Hurricanes, and the franchise brought him into its squad. He went on to have a strong Big Bash League campaign with Hobart in 2023, and that season put him in the spotlight and made his unusual route into Australian cricket widely known.
