Hilton Cartwright

He came through the junior ranks with Western Australia, featuring at Under-17 level before moving on after the 2008-09 season into the Under-23 side in the Futures League, the country's second-tier competition. His promise as a batter, backed by handy bowling, earned him a first-class debut for Western Australia in 2013-14.

Known for his hard hitting and his determination at the crease, Cartwright broke through with a standout campaign in the Matador Cup alongside solid Sheffield Shield form. That run earned him a place in Australia's one-day squad against New Zealand in 2016, although he did not take the field. Later that summer he was handed a Test debut against Pakistan, and he also featured in the Test series in Bangladesh, where he was unable to make a meaningful score.

With his batting and useful medium pace, he was seen as a genuine option for the number six position in the Test side. A dip in Shield form, however, cost him a place in the Ashes squad, with the selectors preferring specialist batsman Shaun Marsh. He went on to make his ODI debut on the tour of India in late 2017, but managed only one appearance and found runs hard to come by.

Back on the domestic scene, Cartwright did not produce standout performances often enough to force a recall, and the rise of the younger all-rounder Cameron Green further limited his chances. In the BBL he switched from the Scorchers to the Melbourne Stars in 2019/20, and he turned out for the Oval Invincibles in the 2022 edition of The Hundred.
