Western AustraliaAll-rounder
Aaron Hardie is an Australian all-rounder who bats right-handed and contributes right-arm medium pace with the ball. He is one of several strongly built players of that type to emerge through the Australian domestic system.
His path to senior cricket began with a setback. Australia selected him for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, but an injury forced him out of the squad before he could take part.
His professional career started in the 2018/19 season, when he played his first T20 match for the Perth Scorchers. Before that season ended, he had also appeared for Western Australia in both first-class and List-A cricket. While turning out for a Cricket Australia XI, he made an impression against touring international sides. He claimed the wicket of Root, and in a tour game against India he removed Virat Kohli by holding a superb catch off his own delivery. In that same game he also dismissed Rohit Sharma and finished India's first innings with four wickets.
Regarded as a prospect for the years ahead, Hardie kept producing steady performances in domestic cricket. That form saw his progress accelerated, and in 2023 he earned his first cap for Australia. He made both his T20I and ODI debuts against South Africa, shortly before the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
