George Dockrell

He was in the Ireland U-19 side that came through the qualifiers for the 2009 U-19 World Cup, though his three matches at the tournament itself brought little. With Ireland short of spin options, he was called up for the 2010 Quadrangular T20 series in Sri Lanka and the T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Aged 17, he made his senior T20 and T20I debut against Afghanistan, taking 2-11 as Ireland won. At the 2010 T20 World Cup he claimed three West Indian wickets, Andre Fletcher, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Narsingh Deonarine, for 16 runs from four overs, even though Ireland lost by 70 runs.

That earned him a place in the 15-man squad for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He took 2-23 against Bangladesh on his World Cup bow and later had both Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni out lbw against India. He then led Ireland at the 2012 U-19 World Cup, taking 5 wickets with tight bowling while the side won only 1 of its 3 group games.

By 2015 he was a fixture in the senior team. He began that year's World Cup with 3-50 in a comfortable win over the West Indies but finished with only 5 wickets as Ireland went out in the group stage. At the 2016 T20 World Cup his standout effort was three wickets against the Netherlands.

Known as an accurate spinner and an excellent fielder, Dockrell steadily moved up the batting order and developed into a forceful middle-order hitter. He was not picked for Ireland's first Test but received his cap in 2019 against Afghanistan, making 39 and 25 and taking two first-innings wickets. In Ireland's celebrated 2021 win over South Africa he hit 45 from 23 balls.
