Jammu and KashmirBowler
Umar is a fast bowler from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, and raw speed is the quality that sets him apart. He stands 6 feet four inches tall, which places him among the tallest seam bowlers currently plying their trade on the Indian domestic circuit. He rose from modest beginnings to reach that level.
His method relies on banging the ball into the pitch with real force, and he complements that aggression with the ability to move the ball in either direction through the air. Height, hostility and swing together make him an awkward proposition for batters.
His breakthrough came during the 2017 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Across five matches he claimed 9 wickets at an average of 15, troubling several well-regarded sides with his speed and movement. Those performances earned him a place in the North Zone squad.
Further recognition arrived when he was named for the 2018 Deodhar Trophy. Described as 23 years old in the source material, he is still early in his career and is regarded as a promising asset for the Jammu and Kashmir side in the years ahead.
