Rajouri, in the Jammu region, produced this hard-hitting batter, who adds handy leg-spin to his attacking strokeplay. His route into senior cricket began in 2018, when, then 16, he caught the attention of Irfan Pathan and Milap Mewada at a trial camp held in Jammu. Pathan was serving as Jammu and Kashmir's player-cum-mentor at the time, while Mewada was the side's head coach.

His first appearance for J&K came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy during the 2018-19 season, and he wasted no time making his mark, finishing not out on 76 from 51 deliveries. By 2019-20 he had established himself as a fixture in the side. His first Ranji Trophy campaign featured a pair of rapid hundreds in consecutive outings.
The Indian Premier League followed when Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for INR 20 lakh ahead of the 2020 edition. In that first IPL campaign he was mostly given the job of closing out innings, chipping in with a handful of brief but useful knocks. The next season was patchy, yet SRH still chose to keep him, retaining him for INR 4 crore before IPL 2022. Consistency remained elusive after that, and he drifted in and out of the starting line-up. At the auction for the 2025 IPL, Lucknow Super Giants secured his services for INR 4.2 crore.
His first-class form has been striking in recent years. Facing Odisha in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he reached three figures in both innings of the same game, making 127 and an unbeaten 108. He then topped the J&K run charts in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, collecting 748 runs across 15 innings at an average of 57.53, with five half-centuries and one century, as the team claimed its first-ever Ranji Trophy crown.
