Rajat Patidar is a right-handed batter from Indore whose rise has been built on steady domestic output. He began in the game as a bowler, and it was only at the under-15 level that he committed himself to batting. He made his first-class bow for Madhya Pradesh in the 2015-16 season, though a couple of years passed before he looked settled at that level. His breakthrough came in 2018-19, when he finished as his side's leading run-scorer. That campaign earned him a Duleep Trophy selection, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru then signed him ahead of the 2021 IPL season.

His first IPL outing was modest. He managed 71 runs across 4 matches, showing glimpses of his ability, and the franchise did not keep him. He came close to missing the following season altogether, but an injury to another player led Bengaluru to bring him back as a replacement. This time he made it count, collecting 333 runs while scoring quickly. The highlight was an unbeaten 112 in the Eliminator, a knock that changed the direction of his career.
Patidar became known for attacking spin bowling of every type and for a bold range of strokes. Further solid IPL form pushed him toward the national side, yet his India appearances so far amount to a single ODI and three Tests. Those Tests came in a home series against England and proved difficult. Despite his reputation against slow bowling, he was troubled by England's three spinners and was dismissed by them in both innings of each match.
After that setback in the longest format, he returned to domestic cricket and was given the Madhya Pradesh captaincy for the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's leading domestic T20 tournament. Setting the tone with his own batting, he guided a side not expected to go far all the way to the final. That leadership caught attention, and he was appointed captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the 2025 Indian Premier League.
