Western AustraliaBowler
Joe Paris is a Western Australian pace bowler who sends the ball down left-handed at medium-fast speed, with swing as the main weapon in his armoury. He was born on 12 November 1992.
Expectations around Paris were high from early on. He played for Australia at Under 19 level, and his showings in age-group cricket made him a name to watch. Once he stepped into the senior domestic game he made a lively start, taking wickets regularly in first-class cricket and proving just as effective in limited-overs formats. His red-ball work came in the Sheffield Shield, while his one-day form for Western Australia in the Matador Cup across two seasons, including 2015-16, helped push him towards national selection.
That call came in 2016, when Australia hosted India in a five-match ODI series. With Mitchell Starc rested by the selectors, Paris was handed his debut and appeared in two of the games. When the more established players returned he dropped out of the side, and he has not played international cricket since.
In the Big Bash League, Paris began with the Perth Scorchers, but between 2013 and 2020 he managed only 25 appearances for them. Looking for more game time, he switched to the Hobart Hurricanes, where his results were modest. A strong domestic season later revived his prospects, and the Melbourne Stars brought him on board for 2023/24.
