When she began, Tryon was viewed mainly as a bowler who could contribute with the bat. Over the years since her international debut she has grown into a genuine batting force and is now a central figure in South Africa's order. In March 2018 she was among fourteen players handed a national contract by Cricket South Africa ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Tryon has been a fixture for South Africa and a well-travelled presence in franchise leagues. In Australia she was signed by Hobart Hurricanes for the 2019-20 season, later turning out for Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers before going back to the Hurricanes. In England's Hundred she represented London Spirit and then moved to Southern Brave. She has appeared for Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Women's Caribbean Premier League, and she is a key member of Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League.
Among her notable achievements is a stand of 142 with Sune Luus, the highest sixth-wicket partnership in women's ODI history. In February 2022 she was appointed vice-captain of South Africa for the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. She was also selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad and for the multi-format home series against England in 2024.
