Melbourne Stars WomenWicketkeeper batter
Amy Ellen is a wicket-keeper batter who plays her domestic cricket for Warwickshire, where she has long been regarded as one of the county's finest talents. She is now England's first-choice gloveholder across every format and a central figure in the national set-up.
Her first taste of international cricket came at the 2013 World Cup, in a match against Sri Lanka that went right down to the wire, with England beaten off the very last delivery. Although only one England player made more runs than her that day, the effort did not secure her a lasting spot, and she had to wait until January 2014 for her next one-day international.
The door opened properly when Sarah Taylor retired, and Amy stepped in as a regular member of the side. She cemented the role in early 2018 with a knock of 94 against India, an innings that made the position hers. Recognition from the England and Wales Cricket Board followed in 2019, when she was handed a full central contract.
Away from the game, Amy's partner is Piepa Cleary, who comes from Australia. Cleary moved to England in 2021 so the couple could be together, and the two now make their home in Leicestershire.
