Papua New GuineaBatter
Lega Siaka holds a notable place in the cricket history of Papua New Guinea: he was the first player from his country to make a century in a One Day International. He is primarily a batsman with an elegant, artistic style. He can also contribute with the ball, sending down part-time leg spin or, when conditions suit, medium pace that can prove useful.
Siaka grew up in a family of very limited means. Cricket ran in the household, and he and his brother Heni were both, at one stage, members of the Papua New Guinea squad for the Under-19 World Cup. Of the two siblings, it was Lega whose career moved forward quickly.
One sign of that progress came in the 2014-15 season, when he earned a Big Bash League contract with the Melbourne Renegades. In first-class cricket, he reached three figures for the first time during the 2015-17 Intercontinental Cup, an innings that showed he could adjust his game to the longer format.
The 2018-19 season brought further reward. Siaka finished as the leading wicket-taker at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers, and that performance helped secure him a place for the WCL Division Two tournament in 2019.
