Rahmat Shah

His international career began in 2013, when he played his first One Day International against Scotland in Sharjah. Barely a week later he faced the same opposition again, this time in Abu Dhabi, for his first-class debut. Those early years did not bring regular selection, and for a couple of seasons he struggled to hold down a place.

The turning point came in 2016. Recalled to the squad, he responded with a century against Scotland, and from then on he became a regular presence in the Afghanistan side through both its successes and its setbacks.

The 2019 World Cup brought him uneven returns with the bat, but a few months afterwards he reached three figures in a Test for the first time. That innings came in Bangladesh and helped set up a landmark victory for Afghanistan in the longest format.

He went on to play a notable role at the 2023 World Cup, passing fifty three times as Afghanistan recorded memorable victories over Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
