Hobart Hurricanes WomenAll-rounder
Nicola Carey is a bowling all-rounder from Sydney who delivers medium pace and also contributes with the bat. She began her domestic career with her home state, New South Wales, playing for the side known as the Lendlease Breakers, in the 2010-11 season.
Her first involvement with Australia came through emergency call-ups. When her New South Wales colleague Sarah Coyte became unwell before the 2012 World Twenty20, Carey, then aged 19, was brought into the squad at short notice. Australia claimed the title, but Carey did not take the field in any match. The same thing happened at the 2016 World Twenty20. She joined the group as cover for Grace Harris, who was suffering from deep vein thrombosis, and once more she was not picked in the starting XI.
The long wait for a cap ended in March 2018, when she played a one-day international against India. On that same tour she also earned her first T20 international appearance. A national contract followed for the 2018-19 season, and she was selected for the 2018 World Twenty20, which Australia went on to win.
Carey kept her central contract for 2019-20, making it two years in a row. She has also shown her all-round ability in the Women's Big Bash. Her aim now is to establish herself as a regular member of the Australian team.
