MaharashtraBatter
Ankit Bawne is a right-handed middle-order batsman known for his elegant style, and he has long been a central figure in the Maharashtra batting line-up. His first-class career began in 2007, when he was barely 15, making him one of the young prodigies of Indian domestic cricket. That early start meant he already had 10 seasons of domestic experience while still just 24 years old in 2017.
His first appearance for Maharashtra came against Karnataka and was not a memorable one. In the second innings he was one of the three batsmen dismissed by Vinay Kumar in a hat-trick. From that quiet beginning, however, he steadily grew in stature and became the heartbeat of his side.
As he matured, Bawne turned into an adaptable batsman capable of steering his team. In the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season he guided Maharashtra to the final, their first appearance in the title match since 1992, although they were beaten by Karnataka. A further highlight arrived in the 2016-17 season, when he and Swapnil Gugale put together a partnership of 594 runs, which stands as the second highest stand for any wicket in first-class cricket. Bawne finished that innings unbeaten on 258, his best score in first-class cricket.
These performances brought wider recognition. At the 2017 IPL auctions he was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils, and he also earned selection for India 'A', both for their tour of South Africa and for the home series against New Zealand.
