Tamil NaduWicketkeeper batter
Narayan Jagadeesan is a wicketkeeper who also bats, and he comes from Tamil Nadu. He is regarded as dependable behind the stumps, and that glovework sits alongside an attractive, attacking approach with the bat.
His rise began in 2016. Earlier that year he played his first First-class match and made an encouraging start at that level. Later the same year the Tamil Nadu Premier League held its first season, and his strong performances in that competition brought him wider attention. In domestic cricket he has shown that he can adjust his game to the demands of different formats, a quality seen as important if he is to keep moving forward.
At the 2018 Player auctions, Chennai Super Kings signed Jagadeesan. His ability was the main reason for the move, though being a home-state player also gave the franchise a local presence in its squad. His path into the side was not straightforward, however, because MS Dhoni held the wicketkeeping role for Chennai. Any chances that did arrive might have come with Jagadeesan playing purely as a batsman, and making the most of such openings was seen as a way for him to push his case among the wicketkeepers who could one day be considered for India.
