DelhiBatter
Yash Dhull is a right-handed batter from Delhi who rose to prominence as captain of the India side that won the 2022 U19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies. His path to that title ran through Delhi's age-group cricket, where he featured for both the U14 and U16 teams before stepping up.
At that World Cup, Dhull did more than lead. In a squad packed with promising players, his own batting stood out: across 4 innings he scored 229 runs at an average of 76.33. The highlight was a hundred against Australia, which drew wide attention to his talent.
His move into senior cricket came quickly. Within roughly two weeks of the World Cup triumph, in February 2022, he was handed his first-class debut for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy against Tamil Nadu. He marked the occasion by scoring 113 in the first innings and an unbeaten 113 in the second, joining Nari Contractor (Gujarat, 1952-53) and Virag Awate (Maharashtra, 2012-13) as only the third player to score a century in each innings on Ranji Trophy debut. Later that season he produced his highest score, an unbeaten double century against Chhattisgarh, made while Delhi were following on and fighting to save the match. He finished the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy as Delhi's leading run-scorer, with 479 runs from 6 innings at an average of 119.75.
His rapid progress also brought him into the Indian Premier League, with the Delhi Capitals signing him at the 2022 IPL Auction. His early career has invited comparisons with earlier Delhi-born U19 World Cup-winning captains Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand, whose careers went in very different directions.
