Junior Dala is a fast bowler with an action that can look slightly awkward at first glance. That impression fades once the ball lands, because he gets it to skid through off the surface with more speed than batsmen tend to expect. In domestic cricket he turned out for the Titans, where Mark Boucher oversaw his development, and his progress earned him a quick promotion into the squad for a T20I series against India.

The three-match series gave Dala an immediate chance to show what he could do, and he took it. He accounted for Rohit Sharma in every one of the three fixtures, and he added Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to his list of victims. Altogether he finished with 7 wickets, conceding a little over 15 runs for each of them.
His first outing was not without cost, however. Dala returned 2 for 47 on debut, figures that went into the books as the most expensive by a South African bowler in a maiden T20I appearance.
That eagerness to attack and his ability to rush batsmen caught the attention of the Delhi franchise. During IPL 2018 they brought him in as an injury replacement for Chris Morris.
