His first outing was memorable for his batting rather than his bowling. Sent in last at number 11, Mothoa ended up as the leading run-getter for the Northerns in that game, and in the first innings no other batsman managed to clear the boundary for six. That innings is still the best score of his first-class career. Since then, his work with the ball has developed considerably. He has collected close to 90 first-class wickets at an average of 23, while conceding runs at an economy rate of just 2.75.
The 2018 Sunfoil Series showed his reliability, as he featured regularly and was among the most consistent performers of the campaign. A highlight was a match against the Knights, in which he took three important wickets in the first innings. Although the Titans had pace bowlers of the calibre of Chris Morris and Junior Dala in that fixture, it was Mothoa who finished with the most first-innings wickets, and the Titans went on to win the game by 4 wickets.
