New Zealand WomenBatter
Madeline Lee Green is a cricketer from Auckland who made her first appearance for New Zealand at the age of 18. That debut was a Twenty20 International against Australia, a match in which runs were hard to come by. Green's contribution was 14 from 18 deliveries, an important innings as New Zealand got home by six wickets with five balls still to spare.
Her route into the One-Day International side was slower. A further two years passed before she earned her first ODI cap, which came against a below-strength Windies team visiting New Zealand. Her international career has been one of interruptions, and as a result she has only a small number of matches for her country so far.
Green is regarded as a batting allrounder. Tall, agile and calm in her approach, she usually bats in the lower order and can also contribute useful off-spin. That kind of versatility is common within the White Ferns, however, and competition from other players with similar skills has made it hard for her to hold down a regular spot in the national side.
At domestic level she represents the Auckland Hearts in the State League. Her record there includes a century, which she scored against the Otago Sparks, the side featuring Suzie Bates.
Away from cricket, Green is a graduate of Auckland University and went on to join the graduate programme at ANZ.
