Jonathan is a right-handed batsman who has led Nagaland as captain. He was born in Umaga, in Nagaland, but his family relocated to Bangalore in 1997. It was in that city that he first developed his love for the game.
While based in Bangalore, Jonathan took up employment with Railways and turned out in the local league cricket scene. His breakthrough came in 2009 at the Karnataka Premier League, where a series of striking displays brought him to wider notice.
He went on to trial with Railways, and that opportunity led to his selection for the Ranji Trophy in 2013. His time there proved difficult, however, because he was deployed lower down the batting order, a role that did not suit him.
A new chapter opened in 2018, when the Nagaland cricket board received approval from the BCCI. For that season, Jonathan was handed the captaincy of the Nagaland side, returning him to represent the state where he was born.
