AndhraBatter
Ricky Bhui holds the distinction of being the lone member of the Andhra Pradesh Ranji side to earn an IPL contract for the 2018 season. The Sunrisers secured his services for 20 lakhs INR, a reward for the steady rise in his domestic output.
His early years at junior international level were less fruitful. Bhui was named in the squads for two editions of the under-19 World Cup, in 2014 and in 2016, but he did not perform well at either tournament and never established himself as a regular in the side on either occasion.
The turnaround came in first-class cricket with Andhra. In the 2015-16 season he finished at the top of the team's batting averages, and two seasons later, in 2017-18, he enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, scoring in excess of 500 runs while averaging above 60. That body of work is what drew the attention of the Sunrisers.
Alongside Hanuma Vihari, who also represented India at under-19 level, Bhui is regarded as a key pillar of an Andhra outfit that has been making significant strides in the Ranji competition. Should an opportunity in the playing side arise, he will be looking to make his presence felt in the IPL.
