Shaik Rasheed is a cricketer from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh whose name first reached a wider audience through junior international cricket. He was chosen as vice-captain of the India Under-19 squad for the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup, held in the West Indies, and the tournament became his stage.
His defining contribution came in the semi-final against Australia, when he scored 94. That knock made observers sit up and recognise a young batter whose ability seemed advanced for his age.
The path to that point was far from smooth. Backing his son's cricket cost Rasheed's father his job on two separate occasions. To get proper coaching, the two of them would regularly make a trip of 40 kms from home to Mangalagiri, where Rasheed could work with coaches at state and district level.
The effort paid off when he earned places in Andhra Pradesh's age-group teams, and before long he was piling up runs for the state.
Rasheed was not involved in the 2022 IPL auction, but CSK signed him for INR 20 Lakh before the 2023 season. The franchise brought him in again for the 2025 season, though he has yet to make his debut for them.
