Kurtis Patterson earned a place in the record books in 2011. Facing Western Australia at the SCG, he made a century at the age of 18 years and 206 days, which made him the youngest batsman ever to reach three figures in the Sheffield Shield.
The years after that milestone were difficult. Injuries kept him away from first-class cricket for close to two years. His return was emphatic: in the 2015-16 Shield campaign he finished as his side's leading run-scorer, gathering 737 runs across 9 matches. He kept up that output for New South Wales the following summer, compiling 668 runs from 10 appearances in 2016-17.
His Big Bash League journey took him across several franchises. When the competition began, he declined an offer from the Sydney Thunder so he could concentrate on his Shield career. A season later he joined the Sydney Sixers, spending a single campaign there before crossing to the Thunder. That second spell proved a lengthy one, running from 2013/14 through 2017/18, and in BBL 06 he was the Thunder's top run-getter in a season that was not a memorable one for the team.
Patterson then committed to the Perth Scorchers on a three-year contract, though runs did not come easily for him in Perth. By 2022/23 he had returned to the Sydney Sixers.
