Manan Vohra is a right-handed batsman from Punjab who usually bats in the top order and likes to attack the bowling. He made his name by scoring heavily in age-group cricket, and Yuvraj Singh, a hero of India's 2011 World Cup win, has called him an outstanding talent. He was moved into domestic cricket at just 17, though it took him some time to settle at that level.
The 2013-14 domestic season showed what he could do. Against Jharkhand he made 187, his maiden hundred, which helped Punjab to a big innings victory. On his best days he can dominate an attack with little apparent effort and change the course of a match.
His showings in the 2012-13 domestic season and at the Under-19 World Cup earned him a place with Kings XI Punjab, his home franchise, for the 2013 IPL. His wide repertoire of shots made an immediate impression across his first two seasons, and he had a knack for hitting decent deliveries for remarkable strokes. Youthful impetuosity, however, led to many careless dismissals, a habit that has often frustrated team management.
After that bright start, Vohra struggled to build on it, and most of his later IPL campaigns were disappointing. The exception was 2017, a respectable season that featured a superb 95 against a strong SRH bowling line-up. Irregular selection slowed his progress, and he did not do enough with the chances he was given to secure a lasting role.
He spent the 2018 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore without showing much improvement. Rajasthan Royals then signed him at the 2019 auction to strengthen their pool of domestic batsmen. Still young, he has time to revive his career, although competition from established names in the Royals' top order may limit his opportunities.
