Tall and lean, Kaverappa bowls a hit-the-deck style, and his persistence with that method has served him well. His reputation was built largely with the red ball. By 2023 he had played 10 First Class matches, taking 34 wickets at an average of 21.67.
His output for Karnataka continued in the 2022-23 Ranji season, when only one bowler in the side took more wickets than he did. Those performances made people take notice of him.
The shorter format brought him another opportunity. After a solid showing in the 2022 Karnataka Premier League, he signed his first IPL contract, joining Punjab Kings for the 2023 season.
