Harvik is a wicket-keeper batsman from Bhavnagar in Saurashtra. His most celebrated moment came in the 2018 U-19 World Cup final against Australia, when he struck the runs that sealed victory for India.
Keeping wicket runs in the family. His father also played the game at some level and stood behind the stumps himself, and that example helped steer the son toward taking up the gloves.
He first drew attention at the age of 13 in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, averaging 62 in his first season and close to 42 in the one after. Despite that promise, he was left out of the 2016 U-19 World Cup squad, with older keepers such as Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant ahead of him in the queue. He took the omission in his stride and kept producing runs in important matches.
That persistence eventually earned him a place in the India U-19 squad for the World Cup held in New Zealand. There his glovework won plenty of admiration, notably an attempt to stop a ball behind the stumps that copied the 'Karate Kick' made famous by MS Dhoni.
