Chitwan RhinosAll-rounder
Tom Taylor is a cricketer whose figures seem to point in two directions at once. His first-class returns mark him out as a capable bowler, yet in List A cricket it is his batting that stands out more. In the longer format he has taken nearly 100 wickets, while in limited-overs matches he carries a batting average of close to 50. It is unusual for a player to look so different from one format to the next.
Taylor began his first-class career with Derbyshire, and Leicestershire signed him at the start of 2018. Among his milestones, Hashim Amla was the first batsman he dismissed in first-class cricket, and his first five-wicket haul was taken against Gloucestershire. He had not yet played a T20 match for Leicestershire.
A standout all-round display came in May 2019, when Leicestershire faced his former county, Derbyshire, in the Royal London One-Day Cup. Batting first, Taylor struck 98, an innings that included 13 boundaries and two sixes, helping his side to a total of around 340. With the ball he then claimed three wickets and also ran out an opponent as Leicestershire protected their score. They went on to win by 36 runs, with his contribution in both disciplines central to the result.
