Central StagsWicketkeeper batter
Cleaver is a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper from New Zealand whose game is built on attacking intent. He is related to Kane Williamson, being his cousin, and the two share a common thread in their early careers: both featured at an Under 19 World Cup, with Cleaver named in the squad for the 2010 tournament. Their methods with the bat, however, are quite different, as Cleaver favours power and aggression at the crease.
His development took place within the Central Districts academy system. He was still a teenager when he made his first-class debut in 2011, and his first List A appearance came the year after. Within roughly two more years he had become a regular across all three formats for the Stags.
That aggressive approach has come at a cost to his consistency. In the longer, four-day game his average sits at around 40, and he has scored hundreds in both first-class and List A cricket, though those innings have been rare. His List A run tally has not yet passed 1000.
The standout feature of his record is how quickly he scores. In 50-over matches his strike rate is above 90, and in T20 cricket it climbs past 125, figures that reflect the hard-hitting style that defines his batting.
